Garrett Butts, the son of three-time Olympian Ingrid Butts, grew up playing soccer and skiing in Gunnison, Colorado. After graduating from high school in three years and spending a gap year in the Methow Valley, Butts moved to Alaska to join the program at Alaska Pacific University.
He’s applied a disciplined, passionate approach to his skiing, slowly but steadily climbing the Super Tour ranks. At the season-opener in Hayward, he notched three top-10s, including a fifth-place finish in the classic sprint. At U.S. Senior nationals earlier this month in Kincaid, Butts was 7th in the 20k classic mass start and 9th in the classic sprint.
Even though he never won a junior national title, earned a spot on a U18 international trip, JWC squad or U23 squad, Butts is now knocking on the door of a World Cup start.
On this show, we talked about his background and progression, his goals and his motivation: to glorify God in all that he does.
