Thomas Maloney Westgard has been tracking down the competition his whole life. Pretty soon, he might run out of people to chase.
It remains to be seen if that is a good thing….
“The hunt — getting to the podium — of course it’s fantastic, but that feeling eventually disappears quite fast,” Westgard said. “So in that way, the hunt is better than the kill.”
The 29-year-old Norwegian-Irish cross-country skier will make his 86th World Cup start in Lillehammer on Friday in the 10-kilometer individual freestyle. The last time he put on a bib for that event was in Minneapolis, where he placed sixth overall.
Pretty good for a guy who didn’t even own skate skis when he started his competitive career at the age of 16.
