We got our first round of snow on Saturday day night! It won’t be long before we are putting in Ks up on Turquoise Lake Road/Hagerman Pass. I’m dreaming and scheming about a possible Thanksgiving training camp —- but since skiers have been coming to Leadville since 1947 (actually, 1917…see articles below), maybe I could be convinced to stay here.
But…. it looks like we’ll have another week of classic Colorado fall weather, which means cycling, hiking and running — hopefully. I’m planning to sweat off some steam from the Pikes Peak Ascent by climbing some other mountains before everything gets buried.

Also, check out some new (and a lot of old) articles in our new tabs. I’ve been going through to categorize everything I’ve ever published on this site. I found a few interesting things….like this audio of my rap song being played on KFAN in 2016:
Ski News roundup
- Klaebo has left Park City…so, I missed him again.
- Mika Vermuelen is getting on snow. Smart man! This is what I’d do if my whole life revolved around skiing!
- Speaking of altitude camps, the Swedish women are getting up to altitude as well in Italy…and they’re all talking about the weird dreams they’re having. Sounds focused.
- Petter Northug will open his season at Beitostolen in November. He’ll face the whole gamut of Norwegian stars — Klaebo, Kruger, Golberg, Valnes and Even. Northug doesn’t think he stands much of a chance in the 10k freestyle, but believes “he has a good chance of progressing from the prologue in the sprint,” according to langrenn.com. “Then I’ll make hell,” (Norwegian-to-English translation) he said. I bet he gets 34th in the 10k and 17th in the sprint.
- Frida Karlsson is dealing with a foot injury, one which has plagued her before. She didn’t attend the national team’s training camp in Trondheim as a result.
NCAA skiing season previews
- I’ve reached out to all of the NCAA ski teams in the country for season previews and have already secured some replies! I’ll be pumping out those stories as soon as I can! If you know of any good individuals I should try and interview — or other compelling storylines (in the USCSA, too), let me know. I plan to reach out to USCSA programs this week.
It’s up! Here from Matt Carpenter on the Leadville 100 record!
It took me awhile to write it, but hopefully it gives you some inspiration!
